Scott Sigler's novel AncestorOur coverage of EarthCore author Scott Sigler–on the cusp of releasing another podcast novel, Ancestor–continues. Enjoy an MP3ized chat between him and TeleRead e-book reviewer Sadi Ranson-Polizzotti. Among the topics discussed this afternoon:

  • The podcast novel as a tool of book promo. Within a few years, Scott predicts, it will be routine for publishers to give away serialized podcasts of selections from even best-sellers.
  • The inherent benefits of podcasted novels in a mobile society. Time-pressed commuters and other readers can try out the authors’ wares for free. And writers can share the access counts with publishers to document interest in specific titles. Free testing!
  • What readers don’t have to do when they hear podcasted samples. No need to drive to Barnes & Noble. No searching through the aisles for the right book in the right genre. A cross-genre book can stand out ahead of time.
  • Scott’s hope that Ancestor will draw as many as 50,000 listeners. “It’s kind of a thriller [in] pacing [and] style, but with a hard science fiction backbone in it.” Cross-genre books can drive publishers crazy since marketing departments are so fixated on pleasing specific niches. See above comment on bookstore aisles.
  • The obtuseness of the mainstream media in understanding what Scott is doing–even though the Net-based media Got It immediately.

You can hear Sadi regularly by adding this link to your podware.

The e-book angle: Yes, an e-book will be out later this month at about the same time that the p-book of EarthCore is.

Details: Apologies for the hum. We are aware of the audio QC issue, will be working on it, and welcome suggestions. But, hey, it’s the content that counts most of all. Between Scott’s innovative ideas and Sadi’s perspective as a veteran editor and publicist, you’ll be well rewarded for tuning in.
