For those thinking about buying the Sony Reader, the $49 offer (available to those who sign up for the Sony Credit Card–see our analysis) still stands with one important caveat. They no longer include the $49 voucher for free e-books –though they still include a credit for 100 public domain titles.
Also, MobileRead reports that the Sony firmware update fixing the battery display problem has finally been fixed. Also, MobileRead contributors are now uploading their own versions of public domain titles in Mobipocket and lrf format –here’s an index of their titles . I’m looking forward to catching up on John Kendrick Bangs’s House Boat on the Styx. It’s supposedly a classic that launched a new literary genre .
