Nokia began taking orders for its 770 Internet Tablet today, indicating on its website that orders would begin shipping on Thursday, November 17. Great day for the e-book world — the screen is the largest of any small device that also has general capabilities, and at 225 pixels-per-inch it’s the sharpest of any screen ever released. (That’s five times the density of typical 100-ppi LCD screens.)
Plucker Viewer is available already as an e-book reader for the Linux device, and FBReader has been ported (the 770 version is not yet available, however).
Excitement about the Nokia 770 is centered around its 800-pixel-wide screen, which provides lines that are 12 to 15 words long in a reading environment, and up to 22 lines of text. The device is selling for $359.99 with free FedEx 3-Day shipping. It includes WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities and runs a full (not embedded) Linux distro, Internet Tablet 2005.
