Last month we reported on efforts to raise money for a free German audiobook edition of Cory Doctorow’s novel Little Brother.
Unfortunately, the effort did not bear fruit. Of the 9,000 Euros needed, only about 1,600 was pledged during the 3-week trial period. As the head of marketing for Argon, the publisher attempting to raise the money, explained in a (German-language) blog post, the project was probably too ambitious given the timeframe. The Creative Commons license took a lot of explanation, and the only payment method was PayPal—which many Germans do not trust.
In the end, Argon considers it a “learning experience” and will try to do better with any future fundraising projects.
