OeBF logoSharper and clearer displays with wider viewing angles and less flicker are on the way in the near future. That’s the good news as recalled by Tom Peters, a well-regarded librarian and e-book expert who attended last week’s OeBF conference on e-books in education. You’ll soon find a recording of his full chatcast, and the conference site will soon contain copies of presentations. Among the more interesting ones was from Joel Domino of Kent Displays.

The bad news is that many publishers are so set in their ways that they don’t understand the usefulness of an XMLish approach. Also, the Association of American Pubishers seems to have problems behind the concept of a national repository of accessible content for the disabled. They publishers are apparently keen on super-tight control of the distribution.
