amazonThe Beloved and I took a little vacation  last week! And guess what I found, tucked in amongst the sights and sounds of the mighty New York City? One of the Amazon trucks!

The truck was one of a handful that Amazon plans to take around the country to promote the new Kindle models. I asked the vendor how that was going and he anecdotally reported to me that business was brisk. They are offering each current Kindle model for $5 off and that has been an incentive for people.

As for me, it was fun checking out the new Kindle Voyage, but I did not succumb to upgrade fever. It was a lovely machine, and even to the Beloved’s untrained eye, it was a clearer screen than that of my Paperwhite. ‘But with that said, how much clearer does it really need to be?’ he remarked as he handed the demo unit back to me. We agreed that I do like having the e-ink model; if something happens to my Paperwhite, I’d upgrade then. In the meantime though, my Paperwhite is just fine and I am content to have the Voyage be that fun little toy I played with in NYC.

"I’m a journalist, a teacher and an e-book fiend. I work as a French teacher at a K-3 private school. I use drama, music, puppets, props and all manner of tech in my job, and I love it. I enjoy moving between all the classes and having a relationship with each child in the school. Kids are hilarious, and I enjoy watching them grow and learn. My current device of choice for reading is my Amazon Kindle Touch, but I have owned or used devices by Sony, Kobo, Aluratek and others. I also read on my tablet devices using the Kindle app, and I enjoy synching between them, so that I’m always up to date no matter where I am or what I have with me."

  1. You obviously don’t live in Seattle. Amazon Fresh trucks are all over the place there. For a time Amazon experimented with using them to deliver regular Amazon packages for free and even tossed in a sturdy shopping bag. They hoped we’d return them with our next order, but I kept mine, as I suspect did quite a few others. They dropped that idea.

So these people were buying because they were offered $5 off a $200 gadget. I guess that proves the old adage about a fool being born every minute. I rarely make an impulse buy that’s not at least half off.
