According to Publishers Weekly, Other Press is raising its royalty for ebooks to 50%. Currently the royalty rate stands at 25%.
The publisher says that the 50% rate will go into effect once the advance has been earned out. In addition they are raising the base rate from the 25% mentioned above to 30%.
Yes, but fifty percent of what? Certainly not gross; not possible when distributors take 30 to 50%.
So 50% of net? Which net, the net from the distributors, or the net after production and marketing expenses, as well as distribution costs, have been deducted?
No movie ever makes any net profit. We could be heading that way in the e-book biz.
Hold out for 25% of gross.
