ZuluReader can read ePub

“DRM free ePubs ROCK!!!!!” says Steve, apparently the ZuluReader developer.
So now Zulu can read ePub as well as RTFs.
You can download a beta here. Your reactions? I got an error message that Zulu requires XP, and I’m running Vista.
Further comments from Steve: “I have tested ZR with Steve Jordan’s The Onuissance Cells and a few RTF’s converted to ePub with Calibre. They read fine though the table of contents is not working yet. If you have any ePubs it won’t read, then send me a copy of the file and I’ll tweak ZR some more, plenty of that to come I’m sure! Once I get the table of contents functioning I’ll convert the help file to an ePub and include it in the install.”
Zulu Reader runs on Windows machines and Windows Mobile powered Pocket PCs and Smartphones and is among the offerings of the ZuluExpress bookstore.

I don’t know about thier books or reader, but that has to be the ugliest, most user unfriendly website ever created. And it looks like they took a lot of time and effort to make it that way. Human perversity never ceases to amaze me.

Steve mentioned to me that he has been putting all his time into creating the reader, and hasn’t spared the time to pretty up the site. Personally, I’m prepared to cut him some slack, especially for the first ePub reader I can use on my PDA.
The problem is he’s spent time uglifying the site. A simple HTML 1.0 page would be better. He’s spent quite a bit of effort and code making a site that’s hard to use.

I’m pretty sure Steve didn’t get up one day and say, “Let’s see how ugly a site I can create.” Not everyone is an HTML expert, or for that matter a graphics expert, Jack. But at least it works. You could always pass on a few pointers to him.
I guess I won’t get to see how ugly his website is. I just went there to download the reader and found out that with Javascript turned off, nothing displays (I use NoScript by default).
I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he is clueless about such issues, because IMO requiring scripting, Flash, etc. to have basic functionality on a web site is just plain stupid.
When I can at least see some basic text about his reader and a download link, then I’ll try it.
I’ve used readers on just about every platform and many different devices. Windows mobile is the best by far in my opinion.
Do you by any chance have any contact information for the Zulu Reader developer. I could not find anything on the website, nor any sort of userguide.
I also could not get his “membership” page to function. Without any way to contact him it is impossible to ask about future developments.
Zulu reader seems to function really well. Beside which, there is no other option for reading epub on a windows mobile device. Of course, there are many millions of such devices out there, so the need is great.
Quite pleased with Zulureader, tried a couple of other programs that didn’t do the business. This one reads Pub files and once you get used to it fairly easy to use, it gets a big “A” plus from me!
