UNC getting closer to TeleRead territory

The TeleRead take: Anyone care for a systematic approach for a well-stocked national digital library system–well integrated with local schools and libraries? And ideally the academic variety, tool? If nothing else, UNC would do well to consider a cross-platform XMLish format for digital documents. OpenReader, anyone? Complete with sophisticated hyperlinking and easier searching? Needless to say, total investment in digital preservation and distribution would be less without the hassles of the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act? Yo, Professor Edwards, ace poverty fighter? Care to speak out?
