The Tower of eBabel: Why we should raze it

NetWorker, a pseudonym for an e-book addict with highly relevant technical expertise, has written a clueful post for the eBook Community List. He shows in effect how the horrors of the Tower of eBabel are harming the e-book business. His main point is that, like it or not, formats do matter in e-bookdom. And goodness knows, there are enough to keep track of. A key sentence–about Blackmask:
Offering e-books in…seven formats will probably catch every market niche there is. But in every case some expense is involved in converting and maintaining a different formats, and it is important to be able to know whether market demand for a particular format is worth the expense required.
