Our upcoming TOC 2013 coverage

Posted By Dan Eldridge On February 12, 2013 @ 12:39 pm In TOC,Tools of Change for Publishing | No Comments

Author Revolution Day O'Reilly's Tools of Change for Publishing 2013 [1]O’Reilly’s annual Tools of Change for Publishing [2] conference just got underway this morning at the New York Marriott Marquis [3] in Manhattan. And while we unfortunately weren’t able to make it New York for the event’s first day, we will be on the scene, tweeting and reporting live, throughout days two and three.

Today’s big TOC draw, of course, is the (day-long) event being referred to as Author (R)evolution Day [4], which may very well end up being considered a revolutionary event in and of itself; the focus is on independent authors and the swiftly-growing self-publishing scene. As the TOC site describes it, today’s Author (R)evolution talks will provide “a cohesive look at the future of publishing for authors—exactly what you need to be thinking about to expand your business and creative skills for the new publishing reality.”

Author (and Boing Boing [5] blogger) Cory Doctorow [6] was one of the first speakers to kick things off earlier this morning. For those of you not able to make the event, TOC is kindly providing a live online stream; click here to check it out yourself [4]. (As of this writing, only 134 people are watching, so even if you’ve got a slow Internet connection, you shouldn’t have too many problems with the stream.)

Obviously, most of you won’t be able to tune in for the entire live stream, but the following are a few talks we’d strongly recommend checking out if possible:

1:30 p.m. EST: How to Put it all Together Part 1: Choosing a Production and Distribution Service [7]

2:30 p.m. EST: How to Put it Together Part 2: Thoughtful Strategies Around Marketing & Discovery [8]

4:00 p.m. EST: Way Beyond the Book: Opportunities for Writers in the Digital Age [9]

And what about the TOC coverage we have planned for tomorrow and Thursday? To be honest, we’re still pouring over the daily schedules. Please do feel free, however, to let us know if there are any particular Wednesday [10] or Thursday [11] events you’d especially like to see us cover. (Leave any comments below; we’ll certainly take requests under advisement.)
