There are several sites where you can read books online. It’s a good idea to try them, and eventually pick up a favorite one, if you don’t want to rely only on reviews, likes and faves.

Today, Wattpad and beActive Entertainment launch a new transmedia project on the Wattpad app and wattpad.com. Readers will discover a layered eReading experience where the novel “Aisling’s Diary” will be available on the same screen as the story’s film adaptation.
Each chapter of “Aisling’s Diary” and a corresponding webisode will be syndicated onto Wattpad’s platform weekly for several months. Readers can connect directly with the fictional characters through Wattpad’s social network, Twitter and Facebook, adding an additional layer of dynamic social interaction to the experience.

Wattpad gets $3.5 million in new investment

Wattpad, the Toronto-based Internet company that allows readers and writers to connect and share their work online, has completed a new round of funding, including an investment from Union Square Ventures, the New York company whose online investments include heavyweight websites such as Twitter, Tumblr, and Foursquare. The investment from Union Square is part of $3.5 million for Wattpad that also includes money from Toronto’s Golden Venture Partners and Vancouver’s W Media Ventures, which has worked in the past with AbeBooks.

Over 150,000 new stories are uploaded to Wattpad every month, providing insight into readers’ preferences and habits across over 1,000 different mobile devices, tablets and PCs.
Trends in Genres & Categories
-Wattpad saw incredible growth in Short Stories (with ~20,000 titles total), as readers look for shorter titles to read quickly without investing in full‐length novels.

The Amazon Web Services outage took our website down for almost two days before we were able to migrate Wattpad’s content, user libraries and infrastructure to new servers.
