Walter Mossberg compares iBooks, Kindle, Nook apps for iPad
September 16, 2010 | 10:15 am
Technology reviewer Walter Mossberg has posted a column on his All Things Digital blog comparing the three major e-book reading apps for the iPad: iBooks, Kindle Reader, and Nook. Mossberg says that he greatly prefers the iPad to dedicated e-readers such as the Kindle for its big, bright screen and greater versatility. The column features a decent basic rundown of each app, covering their strengths and weakness in features, available books, prices, readability, and so forth. He noted that while all three worked well for the most part, the Nook app did have a number of flaws...
Walter Mossberg, David Pogue, Xeni Jardin review the iPad

As the iPad launches, so too do the tech-maven reviews. Here’s one from the Wall Street Journal and AllThingsD’s Walter Mossberg, who makes no bones about the fact that he really likes the gadget. My verdict is that, while it has compromises and drawbacks, the iPad can indeed replace a laptop for most data communication, content consumption and even limited content creation, a lot of the time. But it all depends on how you use your computer. Mossberg found it excellent for viewing media (including reading e-books), surfing the web, and light typing...
Quick Notes: Mossberg on Irex, free RPG e-book, academic publishers, Kindle for Android, Google, saving newspapers
March 11, 2010 | 11:15 am
Tech review maven Walter Mossberg has posted a review of the Irex DR800SG e-book reader. This reader costs $140 more than the Kindle e-reader and is compatible with the Barnes & Noble store among others. Mossberg was not terribly impressed, pointing out a number of areas where its design and user interface could use improvement. In observation of Read An E-Book Week, DriveThruRPG and White Wolf are offering a free watermarked-PDF download of the 224-page World of Darkness rulebook (list price $24.99) for as long as the week lasts. Enjoy! A recent survey shows that 90% of...
Swisher, Mossberg, Jobs video: More iPad details emerge
January 29, 2010 | 6:10 pm
Kara Swisher of AllThingsD’s BoomTown has a video interview with tech review maven Walter Mossberg, including capturing a conversation between him and Steve Jobs. AppleInsider has a summary for those who would rather read than watch.
Of particular interest to TeleReaders: battery life for playing back mp3s will be on the order of 140 hours with the display turned off. Jobs does not believe the 10-hour display time for reading e-books will be a major drawback compared to the Kindle.
Because you just end up plugging it in. You end up docking it or whatever you're going to do with it....
E-book quick notes: Mossberg, clones, Apple links
January 14, 2010 | 4:00 am
Mossberg on Reader Daily Edition Respected tech reviewer Walter Mossberg quite likes the Sony Reader Daily Edition. He sums up its relative strengths and weaknesses versus the Kindle fairly well. The only major flaws he finds are that it costs more and has fewer new titles than the Kindle, and the touch-sensitivity makes the screen dimmer. More New E-Book Devices A couple of blog reports spotted on Twitter: CrunchGear shows a couple more Kindle-clone readers from Tianjin Jinke, the A6 and A9. Akihabara News shows a reader from Hanvon, the N618, that includes handwriting recognition. If there...
