The Growing Pains of Read an E-Book Week
March 18, 2013 | 12:19 pm

Read an E-Book WeekRich Adin, a professional editor, has a thoughtful essay up about Read an E-Book Week. He says he has seen many complaints on author boards that authors' sales did not appreciably benefit from the RAEW sale, and he offers some reasons for why that might be (e.g., authors choosing too-small discounts; doing little-to-no promotion; not tagging their books so the right readers see them; choosing the wrong books to promote). The point that most interested me, though, was the issue of complacency. Stores don't promote author, Adin argues. And he's right: Smashwords had a special section for Read an E-Book Week,...

February 28, 2013 | 12:55 pm

Read an E-Book Week  Starting next Sunday, March 3, readers across Brazil will have one more reason to know and experience the digital book—a reason they feel in their pockets. Booksellers, publishers and authors promote the first "Semana do Livro Digital," a local version of Read an E-Book Week, a traditional online event that's been running since 2004. The Brazilian week will offer thousands of free or discounted e-books from March 3 through March 9, the same time period during which the original Canadian Read an E-Book Week event will be happening this year. In Brazil, dozens of publishers and independent authors will be taking part...

Read an Ebook Week means special deals and offers
March 8, 2011 | 10:30 am

030711 kindle android When “Read an E-Book Week” was started in 2004, it made sense to try to expose more readers to the convenience of ebooks. The Kindle didn’t exist, the readers that did were expensive, and ebook editions were priced like hardcovers if they were made available at all. Now the marketplace is far more competitive, and prices have gone down for both hardware and reading material. Probably every consumer in North America with a TV or Internet access has now heard of the Kindle or Nook. In other words, I probably don’t need to encourage...

March 1, 2011 | 4:24 pm

Screen shot 2011 03 01 at 4 23 49 PMReceived the following from Slawomir "Mori" Malusecki. It seems like a neat idea to me: Hi Paul, I am the owner and administrator of, Polish website about eBooks and eReaders. We've joined the REBWeek initiative this year and already have some ideas what to do. The current trend on the Web is to get people to do actions together somehow. We tried to apply this to REBWeek and came up with an idea - make a photo of eReaders (people, not devices) during reading eBooks (no matter on what...

liniaThis year’s Read an E-Book Week (March 6 – 12) is truly exceptional and I want to be a part of this event as much as I can. Before proceeding to checkout just enter a relevant promotional code (shown later in this post). The codes are valid from now on until March the 13th. What is geek fiction? Short stories for geeks, who struggle with technology, which in many cases instead...

Read an E-Book Week, March 7-13 2010 Read an E-Book Week has begun for 2010, and this year promises to outdo all previous years by an order of magnitude.  Rita Toews has been working her butt off, interviewing for periodicals and blogs, contacting and drawing in new participants and promoters and twittering until her fingers are hoarse!
