Did you know that if you buy something from Amazon less than a week before they lower the price, you can get a refund of the difference? I found this out today, when Amazon dropped the price on the Robotech: The Complete Original Series DVD set from $39.49 to $32.99…four days after I’d ordered it at the old price. But as it turns out, all I had to do was get in touch with Amazon via the “contact me” option on my account page, provide information about the order, and ask nicely, and I got my $6.50 refund. ...

I hadn’t been aware of this until just today, probably because it happened on the other side of the Atlantic, but in recent weeks there’s been a bit of a furor over Amazon UK listing several e-books for only 20 pence each. It turns out, though, that this isn’t Amazon’s “fault”—Amazon is only pricematching Sony. Even though the Justice Department has kiboshed “most favored nation” deals in the arrangement with the three agency publishers who settled, those deals are only binding on those publishers. Amazon is still using it in its arrangements with smaller publishers, and will probably continue to do so until and unless the DoJ turns its gimlet eye on them.
