Baen inks deal with Amazon, makes major changes to Webscriptions and Free Library
December 9, 2012 | 11:22 pm

Toni Weisskopf has posted a series of messages to the Baen Bar indicating major changes in the offing for the Baen Ebooks (nee Webscriptions) store. Baen is finally on the verge of getting its titles placed directly into Amazon (and is negotiating with others such as Barnes & Noble, etc.) The problem is, that comes with pesky contractual obligations. The changes amount to the following: “Old” bundles containing books that have already been published will no longer be available for bundle-priced purchase. (Already-purchased ones should still be available for download, though it is possible some books may...

Mercedes Lackey superhero project bind-in CD available on The Fifth Imperium
March 23, 2011 | 11:50 pm

Invasion art sliceThe Fifth Imperium’s Baen CD repository has posted another CD. This one is bound into the release of the Mercedes Lackey superhero “braided world” book Invasion: The Secret World, an outgrowth of a podcast audiobook project inspired by playing and writing fanfic about the MMO City of Heroes. As with past CDs, the contents are DRM-free and free to distribute non-commercially. More than any other Baen CD, this one has personal meaning for me. Plus, there are so many duplicates, and a lot of the CDs don’t even have the books in EPUB format yet! How do you deal with that? Here’s how I did...

Baen’s free Cryoburn CDROM includes (almost all of) Bujold’s Vorkosigan series
October 24, 2010 | 4:00 pm

Cryoburn-coverUpdate: I've been informed that one Vorkosigan novel, Memory, is not included on the CD, probably because it was not included in any omnibus. I've updated the article accordingly. Baen has published another book with a promotional CDROM pack-in, and (as with all the others) the CDROM is available for free download from the Fifth Imperium Baen CD repository. In either case, the contents are free to share and upload, but cannot be sold. The book is Cryoburn, the latest Miles Vorkosigan novel, and is worthy of mention for a couple of major reasons. One reason is that it includes (in multiple...
