Meeting with Sony tomorrow
August 31, 2010 | 3:12 pm
By Paul Biba
I’ll be traipsing into New York tomorrow morning to visit Sony and talk to the VP of the Digital Reading Division for a briefing on the new Sony Readers. Don’t know whether it will be under embargo or not, but I’ll let you know after the meeting.
As I’ll be in the City (in 94 degree heat according to Weather Underground!) postings may be a bit thinner than usual.

Do you mean you haven’t talked to them yet? Oh.
Don’t forget to ask them about the Android tablet they’re working on. You know, the one with the Mirasol screen.
Could you ask them about:
1) firmware updates for old models – at least update Adobe software to handle full justification and library EPUB/PDF conflict issue.
2) are they aware of the huge popularity of the Sony Readers in Russia (and to less degree Ukraine and other ex-USSR countries)? If not, show them this link: href=”http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96098. There’s a huge opportunity they’re missing there.
Could you ask them if they will truly have a POCKET EDITION size, not the one they dubbed pocket that barely fit in one and needs Captain Kangaroo pockets! THAT is something I WOULD buy! THANKS!
If it’s the same briefing as here in Oz, it’ll be embargoed, but only for a little while. I’m itching to spill my guts. Damn you, Captain Embargo!
Can’t wait for news! I’ll update the page every 5 minutes
I am so hoping for a new Pearl display and glareless touch.
Pearl has been added which is terrific. But wifi / 3G is only on the $299 Daily Edition 7″ screen. The other changes appears to be mainly “cosmetic” — like additional internal storage (boosted to 2 GB). List prices are $179 for the 350, $229 for the 650 and $299 for the 950. Touch technology is on all three models. Full details are already posted at http://www.sonystyle.com. Perhaps today’s news event will reveal more?
