The five alert services (all free) discussed are:

1. Track New Book
2. Book Buzzes
3. Any New Books
4. Author Alerts
5. Wowbrary

A service many of you are probably familiar with. Wowbrary alerts users to new books at numerous public libraries around the U.S.

Like many services on the WWW, the four mentioned in the MakeUseOf article are all (with the exception of Wowbrary) variations on a theme. Since the price is right (free), sampling all of them is easy to find the one(s) that might work best for your info need.

I did a quick test check Jim Butchers Ghost Story with the following result: 1. Track New Book – works fine. 2. Book Buzzes – I already use this, and it hasn’t sent me any info. I’m disappointed. On the site, it only lists the audio book, which comes out later 3. Any New Books? – Completely genre based, and based on the video, will not let you select authors or series. Kindle books is its own genre rather than a category. 4. Author Alerts – Missing Ghost Stories, even though it got released in the past week. So basically of the four (excluding wowbrary), only Track New Book passed, with Book Buzzes a maybe. The disadvantage to the former appears to be that it doesn’t use an account system so you can’t easily unsubscribe to multiple authors and have to click the opt-out link in email you receive.
