From the press release:

Les Presses de l’Université du Québec (PUQ), the vanguard of digital publishing in Quebec, signed an agreement with Nubook, the leading developer of ebook reading solutions, to create their own branded application for iPad.

The PressesUQ application, to be launched in September, will give access to the PUQ’s ebooks catalog in the fields of Administration, Communication, Education and Research Methodology; it will allow customers to buy ebooks directly into the application with their iTunes account; and, of course, it will open the PUQ ebooks in a reading interface defined by the publisher for an optimal experience.

François Guérard, president and CEO of Nubook, said: “We propose to publishing houses a new avenue to add value to their books, thanks to digital technology. Nubook solution allows publishers to offer a rich reading experience, while making their ebooks catalogue available in their own-branded application and on their website. Rather than being imposed, among other things, a limited reading experience and restrictive sales conditions, the PUQ can take full control on their ebooks ecosystem.”

“What came out of our focus groups about ebooks is that some of our readers wanted to purchase our ebooks without going through an intermediary”, said Bianca Drapeau, Director of Digital publishing and new technologies at PUQ. “We chose Nubook solution because it is entirely dedicated to publishers and meets our needs. The reading application offers high quality features that we can set up according to our choices. Moreover, the business model based on partnership is fully compatible and complementary to our distribution strategy with bookstores or other generic retailers. “

The PressesUQ application will be available in Apple AppStore in September.
