mtravellerh, who is located in Luxembourg, has just received a Cooler ereader. Here is a snipped from the review. You can find the rest here:
My Cool-ER finally arrived today. It was safely tucked in a big Jiffy-Pack. The Cool-ER itself was in a small cardboard box. Not a lot of extras coming with the reader, I’m afraid. There is a headgear-adapter and a Mini-USB cable. Not even a manual in that box! …
ePub: This device was made for ePubs. They are fully justified and the book is rendered very fast. Page turning is faster than on the 505 and Cybook, nearly as fast as on the 700. The display seems to have a lot of contrast. Calling up the TOC takes two clicks, though. Direct access would be far better. I think the Cool-ER is not subject to the 300 kb-limit anymore. I will check that out later today and keep you posted. …
Finally: The Cool-ER is still a little rough around the edges, but the ePub engine is just great and the good speed is quite nice, too. Maybe the page turning could be done with the volume control if ya don’t listen to music (hint!) I am still playing with the device, so I will keep you updated!

My first Cooler reader lasted 6 weeks before failing. The second lasted 4 weeks. “Customer service” has been useless. Stay away from this pointless piece of junk.
Same here, lasted 3 weeks. I’m glad the battery can last 8000 pages, because the device didn’t go that far.
Same advice as above.
I just got my new cooler ereader and the screen froze withins seconds of turning it on. I left charging overnite on a kodak usb ac adapter and still frozen. I now have it charging on my computer but bars on battery indicator have not moved at all after 1 hour. Anyone else having this problem?
I got the cooler for Christmas gift, it freezes up while trying to load the book. I have to reboot the device 6 or 7 times before I can bring the book up. I could read quite a few charred of a book with all of the time I spend rebooting. This device sucks!
Funny thing is, I am still waiting for my ereader. I placed the order more than a month ago, they deducted the amount already after two days from my account and I am still waiting.
Support has been rather slow to respond or not respond at all, after hussling them every single day I finally got a tracking number and I am not looking forward to receiving it after reading your reviews….
The support number they give you on the website for UK doesn’t even work. Well, now I can just wait and see if it sucks or not…
I have enjoyed my cooler for a few weeks then it has suddenly started freezing nearly everytime I go to open a book. It will not reboot so I have to go through the Lon process of letting the battery die. Sending it back tomorrow.
I had a cooler ebook for christmas that lasted for about three weeks before it froze. Then got that replaced on the 7th jan now my replacement has done exactly the same. Really not happy. Been told by cooler customer service that i need to update it with new firmware . Really not worth the money i paid for it.
Got my reader for Christmas and it froze up after 3 weeks and I tried the re-boot option and removing the battery with no success. The device was fully charged and I also tried connecting it to the PC and re-booting but again with no luck.
Took it back to Argos where it was bought and they changed it for a new one. That lasted 2 weeks and did the exact same thing as the first.
Customer service were e-mailed the firs-time and no response since than and I’ll contact them now over this second failure.
Going to pay extra and get the Sony model. Stay well away from this Cooler reader, the software in it must be dodgy.
Stay away from this product. I ordered the book for my daughter’s 16th bithday in september. It came late, a month late! There was no communication from the company regarding its delay. I had to contact the company in Reading to ask about my order. The book stop working last month. I have e-mailed the company, but had no response. Their customer service is an answer machine!! It is impossible to resolve this problem directly when you cannot phsically get a response from anyone. The company SUCKS! Donot buy any goods directly from this company.Spend a bit more money, buy a Sony.
This sounds like a recurring theme. The cooler has just crashed on. I work in Saudi Arabia, so it is a nightmare downloading books anyway (strangely there was no mention of this in the cooler’s advertising blurb). But I ended up inheriting a load of e-books. I had just finished putting them on the cooler when it crashed on me. It has grey lines across it and my computer does not pick it up when I attached it to the USB.Still haven’t had a reply from my e-mail to them. This sound familiar to anyone?
Rec’d my cooler on 12/14 and it crashed last night. Called QVC where I purchased it and they said I had to return it within 3 months. There were no help. told me to contact the manufacture for warranty information. Called Interead and they told me they would send me return instructions for a replacement. Still waiting. Does anyone know how to return it for replacement? Or is it useless.
Same problems as all those above. I bought mine from Argos UK and have just had to return the third one – this time for a full refund as I wouldn’t touch this brand again.
Argos was good with the refund – especially as this time I was over the 30 day no quibble limit, but of course cannot (will not?) refund me for the books I have downloaded and now will not be able to use on whichever brand I buy in replacement.
No luck with getting in touch with the company, and no luck with any of the many troubleshooting tips I could find on line. This is a faulty product that should be withdrawn from sale – I am going to contact trading standards in this respect.
I got mine christmas, and it has froze on me a lot, especially if the book is long. Cannot download a book, hard to get to their website, I am just througly disgusted with it
I would not recommend this reader to anybody. This company does not care about customers at all (e.g. to me). Try another reader
I got mine at christmas too it also froze on me.Can anyone give me the 800 # so I can contact this company, before the warranty runs out.
can someone please give me the telephone number for the cooler ereader company ,so that I can call them before the warranty for this (cooler ereader junk)which froze on me just a few weeks after I got it.
