Quick Note: Sharp to enter the ereader market

Sharp says that they plan to enter the e-reader and e-book market. Their plan is to offer an e-book distribution service and compatible readers in 2010. The readers will also enable users to watch videos and listen to audio. They have already signed up several Japanese and worldwide publishers.

Maybe this will motivate Amazon/BN to move more quickly to address the rest of world. It’s hard to see how a me-too new entrant could have success in the US but maybe they’ll set a price point that will change the market.

They are LCD-based and will depend on a proprietary ebook format that Sharp has been developing “since 2009″. They are lining up publishers for their proprietary book store, too.
Dunno but I’m thinking they’re running about 4 years late with this approach. They’re gonna get slaughtered by the Android webpads.
