Hack your Kindle to change the fonts

There is quite a flap going on about the supposed inferiority of the fonts on the Kindle 2 as compared to the Kindle 1. Owning both machines, I must say that I never even thought about it until I started noticing the posts. My Kindle 2 is just fine, as far as I’m concerned.
However, for those of you who are having a problem the Kindle Boards Blog has an excellent summary of the issue. It also points you to K Design Works that has a “fix” for the problem, by means of installing new fonts.
I don’t intend to try this on my machine, but some of our readers might find it of interest.

Cybook lets you add any fonts you want, no hack necessary.
I just tried them all and the “tall fonts” is absolutely fabulous. It’s WAY more readable than the original Kindle2 font that it’s based on. HUGE IMPROVEMENT!!!
Finally, my Kindle2 looks BETTER than my old Sony PRS-505. Many thanks to all of the fine folks involved in this hack!
(and SHAME ON YOU Amazon for not addressing this issue yet in any of the THREE firmware updates that have been issued for K2!)
Tried two of the hack fonts and while they’re fine I’ll stick with the default font since I have no problems with it. It is nice that folks that want to have an easy way to change fonts if they want to though.
