Despite the political rhetoric the two countries have been collaborating on certain technical standards-setting activities, including telecommunications, LCD screens, LED technology and others. Now PC World is reporting that they have agreed to adopt and promote the Epub standard for the Chinese-language market. This means that we will probably see Epub becoming more and more standard on ereaders, as the majority of them are produced in Taiwan. In addition the Taiwanese government will release $66 million to promote the electronic publications industry in Taiwan.

With the People’s EPUBlic of China getting on board, the official ebook format for more than 1.3 billion people will be EPUB.
Is this the end of the ebook format war?
Nope.
Cause there isn’t an ebook format war going on; there’s a DRM-wrapper war going on.
Me, I’m really interested in whether the Chinese will be happy signing up for Adobe DRM for local consumption or if they’ll cook up their own or even go DRM-free.
