Shelf Awareness is reporting that Amazon’s stock rose 3.2% to an all time high yesterday after announcing that the Kindle November sales were the best yew and that businesses and organizations were buying the device in large quantities for employees and customers. By contrast, B&N’s stock price declined 4.3% at closing.
Also, Cyber Monday sales, says Shelf Awareness, rose 11% over last year, but the average transaction fell 14%.

This seems to coincide with Black Friday stats: People bought slightly more items, but spent slightly less money doing it.
The significance of the stock differences is probably due to everyone’s realizing that Amazon’s e-book offerings will be more popular than B&N’s in the short term, thanks to the Nook delay beyond Christmas. A shame, really: B&N isn’t doing much to publicize the fact that you can read their books on computers, handhelds, etc with their B&N-branded eReader, something you couldn’t do when the Kindle came out.
Can’t say I’m sorry to see this. I’ve about lost my patience with B&N.
1-Prices can differ significantly between the online store and in-store. There’s no way to know what the in-store price is without calling the store, even though you can check store inventory online.
2-It used to be you could get Fast and Free next-day delivery in many areas of NY and NJ, outside of Manhattan. They had a chart of included zipcodes, and luckily my area was included. This seems to have disappeared.
3-I recently ordered quite a few CDs in a single order that were supposed to be in stock and arrive in a few days. They came in numerous separate boxes and took a lot longer to arrive than originally communicated to me.
4-I signed up for an annual Membership mainly because of an offer for $50 in coupons when you signed up. I waited weeks for the coupons to arrive. Finally I contacted Customer Service. They emailed me the coupons, but intimated that I was trying to pull something because they hadn’t posted the coupon offer until after I signed up. That just wasn’t true. They gave the impression coupon codes could be combined, but it didn’t work for me, so all I saved was about $5.
5-They aren’t giving a member discount on the Nooks.
And the last time I checked the site, they were offering “member prices” to everyone on ever items I looked at (for a limited time). What exactly was my Membership supposed to buy? Right now it is worth ZERO.
