The company will adopt ‘industry standard’ XML as the file format for popular applications like Word in the next major release of Office, codenamed Office 12 and expected in 2006. The implementation is called Microsoft Office XML Open Format.” – Channel Register.

The TeleRead take: Great! Remember, OpenReader is XML/CSS-based. Let’s hope that open e-book standards at the consumer level are next on Microsoft’s agenda. Meanwhile I’ve run across more details on the Office XML.
