Nokia 770The Nokia 770 already has a colorful, well-done blog devoted to it–complete with enough photos for the most obsessed techno-worshipper. Among the more interesting observations there: “Nokia thinks of itself more as entertainment company.” That’s good news for us e-book-lovers. Oh, and someone is keeping track of the PepperPad and other competition. Me, I’m rooting for both the 770 and the PepperPad along with the Cybook. Meanwhile it’s great that the eBookwise machine is around for the budget-strapped. Here’s to choice!

One thing I like about the 770 blog: It links to criticisms of the 770, including one that ZDnet made of the Nokia machine’s inability to deal with DRMed Microsoft multimedia formats. Response: just get your content where people supply alternatives. But, hey, that’s not always the answer. Oh, to tear down the Tower of eBabel, whether in music, e-books or otherwise! Linux-based devices like the 770 will be among the biggest beneficiaries.

The whois angle: The whois of the blog at Nokia770.com is is in the name of one Alexander Moskalyuk in Spokane, Washington. I don’t know if he has any connection with Nokia–perhaps he’ll let us know. Whatever the case, best of luck, Alex! And don’t forget to check out OpenReader and catch up with us if you have questions!

  1. Thanks for the good words.
No, no connection with Nokia, I’ve been blogging for a while (also you might know me as prostoalex on Slashdot), always wanted to do a gadget-specific blog, and this device is something I can get excited about, so figured now’s the right time.

  2. Hey, Alex, you’re sure off to a great start. Keep up the good work! Your independence of Nokia is very good news. It shows that the Model 770 is already is attracting its fans. Just think. If the 770 catches on, maybe the street price will end up in the lower 200s.

  3. The Nokia 770 has a blog, and now the Pepper Pad has Pepper Hacks (www.pepperhacks.com). I just started the site up a few days ago and plan on populating the site with more information as the ship date grows nearer. There are plenty of non-sanctioned projects for the Pepper Pad I have slated for development in my personal time.
