Google RSS reader no longer such a joke—but stick to Bloglines if you’re an RSSholic

The Google Reader for RSS feeds is no longer such a joke. It looks and acts a bit more like Bloglines and the rest than before. When I imported a list of several hundred feeds, however, the Reader slowed. It just isn’t as snappy as Bloglines—at least not when I tested it (A CNet reviewer might disagree about the speed).
What’s more, the mobile version of the Google Reader offers fewer features than the equivalent from Bloglines—for example, PDA/cell-optimization of linked-in sites. Plus, Google’s mobile reader takes longer to use, unless you’re interested in the latest feeds.
Still, you may find the Google Reader for mobiles and the regular version to be worth checking out if you’re not as much an RSSholic as I am. (Screenshot from Google.)

I prefer Orijinn for my RSS addiction.

Site’s slow sometimes, but it reads better on my Nokia than Bloglines (I despise the Nokia Bloglines client; I prefer RSS-in-browser) and it’s still faster than Google Reader.
Hey, Cerebus. Big thanks for the suggestion. I tried the Orijinn reader and had trouble loading all my feeds, but I may yet give it another shot. Furthermore, others may like it, so I appreciate your acquainting us with it.

I always liked Google’s river-of-news style display. It made for VERY fast reading of large numbers of feeds. Also, being able to see all of the feeds together meant I could follow developing stories across multiple blogs for an interesting look at the bigger picture.
It took me a couple of uses to become comfortable, but I like the new interface – though I agree with the occasional slowdown! The only thing that I find very silly is the “100+ items.” With the number of feeds I am tracking, 100+ items is a given.
