Re the piece on University Libraries “sharing” eBooks, the belief among academic librarians that commercial publishers will always be the primary and best source for eBooks appears to me to be seriously undermining their bargaining position. This weakening also threatens to bring up the question of whether traditional academic libraries are the best option for handling digital works. To put it bluntly, I think that they are shooting themselves in the foot and then bragging about how good their aim is.
