mail.google.com.jpegHere’s another press release today. This is important because it shows the continued solidification of the ebook/cellphone market – something I believe will be getting bigger and bigger over time.

Hot on the heels of the world’s leading booksellers Amazon and Barnes & Noble launching Android Book Stores, digital book service provider Mobcast Services Ltd has added a new dimension to the emerging ebook market. Mobcast are enabling mobile operators to sell thousands of best-selling books to their Android and smart phone customers, billed directly to their mobile phone account.

T-Mobile UK & Orange UK are the first operators taking advantage of the latest version of the Mobcast digital book platform. The operator-branded stores allow book lovers to browse, sample and buy ebooks & audiobooks from the world’s biggest authors.

Mobcast CEO Tony Lynch said: “After developing this platform for two years we know from our own customer data that they love reading books on their mobile phone and a large percentage go on to purchase multiple books per month. The majority of our revenue comes from repeat customers. The latest version of the Mobcast platform allows the operators to offer a full book shop experience to millions of their book loving customers.”

The Mobcast platform is capable of delivering books across multiple devices including mobile, PC’s, eReader’s and Android devices, with iPhone and iPad support to follow later this year. Mobcast expect to be launching similar platforms with international retailers and operators over the coming months.
