Librarian Gary Price, publisher of Resource Shelf, took pity on my inability to find ebooks from my library and pointed me to ebrary. This organization was founded by John Warnock and looks interesting if you are willing to read on a computer. I suspect it is most useful for research (you can even search by Dewey Decimal Number!). Go over and take a look. It’s free (after a $5 deposit) and you only pay if you need copying or printing. It has more than 20,000 full-text ebooks including sheet music and maps. The quote is from a press release.
ebrary is the leading solution provider for the secure online delivery of authoritative, copyright protected content. The company offers the ebrarian solution for channel partners and is creating a rich online library of copyrighted books, journals, periodicals and more that can be freely indexed by search engines through its open access model. ebrary’s comprehensive approach benefits publishers and content providers by enabling them to quickly and cost-effectively tap the Internet economy while protecting their copyrights online. The company’s unique photocopy model benefits Internet users worldwide by allowing them to freely browse and search valuable content without subscription and membership fees, paying only for the convenience of printing or copying the information they need. ebrary is privately held and is funded by Random House, Pearson plc and McGraw-Hill.
