Kindle VoyageNate at The Digital Reader has this brief piece in which he reports that the Kindle Voyage has sold out in its first four days, and is now back-ordered.

From the story:

“A quick check of the Kindle Voyage page on Amazon this morning has revealed that several of the Kindle Voyage models have been delayed as late as the second week of December. While the 3G+ads model is still scheduled to ship in October, the other three options have been pushed back at least a month (there’s also a quota of two per customer).”

In other Kindle Voyage news, a poster at MobileRead claims to have spoken to an Amazon rep who claims that the Voyage will not be available in Canada anytime soon. The poster reports that they tried to order it off the Amazon.com website, got booted to the .ca website, and were then told the product was unavailable. A live chat with the rep confirmed this was true.

I suspect some of the features of the Voyage which most interest me may become available to Paperwhite users via updates anyway (such as the ‘About the Book’ stuff) and the touch sensors don’t overly interest me, so whatever. But still…Oh, Canada! Missing out yet again!

  1. Calm down. Amazon does this all the time. A sell-out in just four days was clearly planned. They don’t build and ship enough to meet demand, so they can see those “Sell out!” headlines.

Amazon lacks Apple’s knack for getting tech reporters breathing hard. They have to do this instead.

What would make me breath hard? Probably paying several hundred dollars for an iPhone Maxi and having it bend after sitting down with it in my front pocket. Yep, that would do it. 😀

  3. Last year, Kindle Paperwhite 2 became available only for U.S. market at end of September 2013. It then become available about a month after on Amazon.ca. My order history on Amazon.ca shows I ordered my Kindle Paperwhite 2 on Oct. 23.

So, assuming this pattern remains true for Kindle Voyage, it would then become available to Canadians some time end of November. However, knowing it may be much more of a hot item than the Paperwhite 2, we may have to wait until January 2015.

Call me a sucker for having the next hot thing on the block, but I intend to buy a Voyage. The higher resolution screen, improved lighting with auto-adjustment, the flush screen, the haptic buttons and lower weight are strong arguments enough for me to get one – I’m an avid reader, so it’s not like it’s going to collect dust on my shelf!

  4. You can still order the Voyage on amazon.de (Germany) as of now (21 Sept 2014, 21:30 h CEST) with an expected delivery on Nov 5th (confirmed for an order placed). Nov 4th is the launch date for Germany and amazon.de will tell you on their product page that pre-orders will only be delivered some time after the launch date ‘due to high demand’. As stated before: if you actually place an order, their expectd delivery date is still one day after pruduct launch…
