Amazon Kindle eReader lost its number one sales rank on the amazon store. Kindle Fire has now number one in sales rank. In just three days after the announcement of Kindle Fire tablet along with three new kindle eReaders, Kindle eReader has slipped away from top rank for the first time in nearly three years. Kindle touch wifi with special offer now in second position in the ranking. The popularity of tablets, and people’s crave for a cheap but useful tablet (don’t have to be ipad-like) has made this happening. People are buying more Kindle Fire tablets than actual Kindle eReaders. However, this might be partially true. Since there are five different kinds of Kindle e-ink readers are available in the Amazon Store, and people are buying Kindles according to their preferences, we don’t whether the volume of all Kindle e-ink readers sales altogether is higher than that of Kindle Fire though that is most likely. Amazon has never released any sales figures of Kindle. However, according to a report by InformationWeek,
“Despite the higher price point, the Kindle Fire outstripped sales of the other three new Kindle units combined,” said eDataSource. Amazon officials did not return a call seeking comment on Kindle Fire sales.

Here are some more interesting facts based on the above table:
- Kindle still top selling product in Amazon store.
- Kindles with special offers are far more popular due to lower prices. You can compare Kindle Kindle wifi w/ special offer at #2 to Kindle wifi without special offer at #11, Kindle Touch wifi w/special offer at #3 to Kindle Touch wifi w/o special offer at #9, Kindle Touch 3G+wifi w/special offer at #4 to Kindle Touch 3G+wifi w/o special offer at #8.
- Newly released Kindles have taken over the Kindle 3 by capturing 2 to 4 ranks, but all of them are Kindles with special offer. The lower the price the higher the rank.
- People prefer Kindle 3 ( Kindle keyboard) with special offer than the newly released Kindles without special offer.
Somebody must have access to numbers. I’ve seen at least one report that they pre sold over 93,000 Kindle Fires in the first 48 hours. Not quite iPhone/iPad numbers but certainly a lot more than any other similar, non-discontinued tablet like device.
