Digg Readying a Google Reader Replacement

Digg Google Reader [1]Well, that was fast. Digg announced yesterday that they are building a Reader replacement [2]. Apparently they’ve been planning it for a while—they’re just moving it up the priority list. Good for them!

I’m liking this part of the announcement:

We hope to identify and rebuild the best of Google Reader’s features (including its API), but also advance them to fit the Internet of 2013, where networks and communities like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit and Hacker News offer powerful but often overwhelming signals as to what’s interesting. Don’t get us wrong: we don’t expect this to be a trivial undertaking. But we’re confident we can cook up a worthy successor.

I’ve never really done much with Digg, but this could change that for me.

They are putting out a call for assistance in building it, so if you’d like to be a part of it, sign up. There’s also a page to sign up to be notified when it’s ready [3]. Check out the page. They have a nifty countdown clock to Google Reader’s death moment.

We all mourn for a while and then move on. We techies are darned fickle, aren’t we?

I can SO empathize! I have checked out Feedly; I don’t like the interface as well, but it does capture your Reader feeds for you.

@carmen, I’m also using Feedly. It’s not perfect, but I’m making it work.
