The people behind the Man Booker International Prize have just announced the six books on the 2016 shortlist.
While genre titles dominate e-bookdom, all these literary fiction titles are sold as both e-books and paper books. Amazon links are below.
- José Eduardo Agualusa‘s A General Theory of Oblivion, translated by Daniel Hahn: A story set in Angola during war times. That’s Agualusa in the above photo.

- Han Kang‘s The Vegetarian, translated by Deborah Smith: A story set in Korea, where the main character’s dietary decision is seen as an act of subversion that sets off a coming of age.
- Yan Lianke‘s The Four Books, translated by Carlos Rojas: A story set inside a labour camp during Mao’s revolution in China.
- Orhan Pamuk‘s A Strangeness in My Mind, translated by Ekin Oklap: A young man’s coming-of-age in Istanbul.

If you’re like me, you may at times fall into reading ruts. An award list like this can be a great way to expose yourself to something different and unusual. Happy reading!
