image FBReader has just released the FBReaderJ 0.2.1 update for real phones using Google’s Android operating system—as opposed to just emulators.

The ePub industry standard is among the formats that 0.2.1 supports.

Details are here and here, including info on glitches in the interface and other areas.

The Android download is here. More screenshots are here. Click on the image to the left for more detail.

So, gang, what do you think if you yourself are among the early owners of the Android phone and can actually try out the software? Does the reader live up to its promise, except for the glitches? Pros and cons, allowing for the fact that this is essentially still a beta? From developer’s message to the FBReader e-mail list:

“0.2.1 was released, but I’m still not sure FBReaderJ is ready for the Android Market: it works well, but zip reading is extremely slow at the moment. Now we plan to submit FBReaderJ into the Android Market after fixing this issue.”
