A British initiative might be worthy of imitation by those of us on the other side of The Pond. U.K. fathers, reports the Bookseller, can send text messages to Bookstart to get free storybooks for their children. Wait. Actually the U.S. already has something a bit similar, Reading Is Fundamental, albeit without text messaging. Why is Washington still imperiling RIF?

Perhaps I’m missing something, but why can’t *mothers* text for the info, too? Is the program men-only? Or is the assumption that women don’t use technology?
Hear, hear! I agree with your point. But at least we have a Father’s Day peg here. A Mother’s Day one next year? Meanwhile keep in mind that boys lag behind girls in literacy. Thanks. David
