Kurt Vonnegut“79% of readers surveyed are more likely to support companies who support e-books. Prime motivators for supporting companies that support e-books are a sense of reciprocity towards sponsors and a belief that sponsors are contributing to the social good.” – News release from WOWIO, where you can get free books ranging from how-to guides to novels by well-known writers such Kurt Vonnegut (photo) and William Styron. WOWIO says it’s given away a million dollars worth of free books.

Free—during July, at least: World eBook Fair (via Peter Scott’s Library Blog). “Full Text Search of 500,000+ PDF eBook Titles in 100+ Languages.” The site offers a mix of public domain books, special interest titles like religious books, and freebies that publishers are giving away elsewhere. Too bad about the focus on PDF. To Adobe’s credit, it’s ramping up for new IDPF format—which displays much better on PDAs. Ideally Wowio and the World eBook people will do the same.
