Stanza no longer available on the US and Canadian App Stores

Received this email from Dave.
I saw a note on the Lexcycle forum that Stanza was no longer listed in iTunes US Store. I just checked and it is no longer available in the Canadian store. I also noticed in the forum a rare posting from one of Stanza’s creators stating that there is currently no plans to update the application for iPad. One has to wonder what Amazon is doing… It is definitely worrying.
Wow! I just checked the US App Store and the Kindle App is still there, but Stanza is gone.

That’s rather worrying.
But, given what Amazon did to MobiPocket, not entirely unexpected, I suppose.
Just when I had got everything working with Dropbox as well, so that I can access my collection anywhere. Perhaps the Kindle iPhone app will be upgraded to support ePub!!

Lexcycle have posted a forum comment to say that they are working with Apple to restore it – so perhaps it was a technical glitch. Good fun for a few moments though, expanding on conspiracies and dark plots!
It’s the sync with calibre that I most like about it, on the plus side it won’t be removed from people who already have it and if iBook supports unprotected epub then that’s a possible reader, but I don’t like the part about going through itunes for that.
Well if they don’t restore it, that’s a &8&^?? shame it’s the best app out for doing customizations quick and easy.
I could never figure out why Amazon might want to buy Stanza unless it was to somehow kill it. I did not expect something this quickly however. I figured it would be gradually merged with the Kindle App. Who knows, this might be Apple deciding its “dangerous”.
Just speculating, but if it’s an Apple issue, it may be a sign that Apple doesn’t want iBook competition.
Well here’s hoping nothing happens to the OS for a while that breaks Stanza. It’s my favorite reader too.

Txtr is. You can read Adobe pubs too.
Personally, I would rate i2Reader higher than Txtr as a better ePub app for the iPhone. The pay version has very nice dictionary support (popup rather than taking you to another page). It also has customization that Txtr doesn’t and can natively connect to Calibre.
Apple had a temporary glitch with the App Store. You should be able to download Stanza again from http://itunes.com/apps/Stanza.
But, can the i2Reader read Adobe DRM books as Txtr can?
No, as far as I know if you have a Adobe DRM ePub your only choice to read it on an iPhone/iPod Touch is Txtr.
I can confirm that it is back for sale in Canada. Strange glitch for Apple to have with iPad pending…
I compared the new file to the one I already had and there is a three byte difference in file size. ????
And suddenly there’s an updated version of Stanza on iTunes.
