Preparations for Read an E-Book Week (March 8-14, 2009) started early with a complete make-over of the Web site.
With Sony and E Ink participating this year we thought it was time for a spiffy Web presence. It’s at ebookweek.com rather than the old address. Huge thanks to e-book author Steve Jordan for the new masterpiece.
Along with Sony and E Ink, SF and fantasy publisher Tor has shown interest in participating in the event. CNN Business included us in an article last fall, and maybe we can attract another this year.
Fact-packed site
Since the purpose of Read an E-Book Week is to educate readers on the pleasures and benefits of reading electronically, our new Web site features pages on the history of e-books, the future of e-books, and the environmental benefits of reading electronically. We also have information on a number of e-book devices on the market, and suggestions as to where readers might purchase quality electronic reading material.
Share and link!
We want a content-rich site that satisfies the visitor, so anyone with an interest in e-books is invited to participate. Any author or publisher who volunteers a free e-book download, or downloads, will get a mention with a text link on the supporters page. We ask that you link back to us with one of the banners available on the site. We’ll even custom-make one for you if you wish.
The site is non-revenue producing and there are costs associated with a Web presence. A new venture called gogreenreade.com—set to launch its site in February—has donated the costs of a traffic upgrade for the site. Thanks, gogreen!
Our e-book store
Anyone in the market for an e-book could try out our e-book store. We’ll use the profits for upkeep, and upgrading, the site.
So, come over for a visit. Spread the word. Think of ways you can participate in Read an E-Book Week. If you’ve used one of the reading devices listed you could write a review.
