Pixel Qi display technology shows up in a new ten-inch tablet from Notion Ink.
This is the first mention of a definite use by a specific vendor.
Bottom line: both E Ink- and classical LCD-style capabilities, including color in the latter mode.Details:
–Price might be around $300.
–Android OS.
–10.1-inch 1024 x 600 Pixel Q
–16 hour hours of Web use expected with WiFi
–NVIDIA Tegra T20 chipset with 1080p Full HD video playback.
–6.3 x 9.8 x 0.6 inches and 1.7 pounds.
–Either 16GB or 32GB of SSD and SD slot for more.
–Office-type software among apps.
–“The triband (850/1900/2100) UMTS/HSDPA, WiFi b/g and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR it also squeezes in A-GPS, a digital compass, accelerometer and proximity, ambient light and water sensors” (Slashgear description).
–“Connectivity includes USB, HDMI, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microphone input, and there’s also a 3-megapixel autofocus camera with video recording support support.”
Notion is said to be in talks with content providers. E-books are almost surely on the way, and I’ll love the improved contrast in the LCD mode.
Detail: A shot of the display in action on Notion Ink’s unit is to be unveiled at CES. A shot of the display panel in action is here. TeleRead’s underpowered server, from which we’ll soon move, wouldn’t let me reproduce the screen photo, so just follow the link. What do you think, gang?
