One-thousand New Zealand classics have been released as e-books in ePub, via the New Zealand Electronic Text Centre at Victoria University in Wellington. Among the choices:
* The Life of Captain James Cook, by J. C. Beaglehole
* The Garden Party and Other Stories, by Katherine Mansfield
* Coal Flat, by Bill Pearson
* The Godwits Fly, by Robin Hyde
* We Will Not Cease, by Archibald Baxter
* Infantry Brigadier, by Howard Karl Kippenberger
* Tutira, by William Guthrie Smith
* My Life, by Jean Batten
Scroll down and look on the right side of the respective book pages for TEI and ePub download links. They’re far too easy to overlook; hello, designer? That’s just a nit, though. Congratulations to NZETC!
The 1,000 titles are just a fraction of those available in ePub, but I’m always gratified to see smaller countries climbing around the bandwagon. Feedbooks, Manybooks.net and Project Gutenberg are among the major sources of public domain ePub books. Gutenberg’s ePub is experimental; same for Manybooks.
