LCDs might be easier to read in the sun and have a better viewing angle—or at least some from LG displays will LG is picking up fringe-field switching technology—the source of such miracles—from the Hydis unit of E Ink maker PVI. See Softpedia and Wall Street Journal.

Teaser at the end of the Softpedia item: “LG hasn’t clearly stated whether it will ever start to produce its own e-readers, but it is obvious that it will, at the very least, start making displays for such devices.“

my interest would not be for e-reader purposes, but i’d not say ‘no’ to better sun- or daylight legibility of my *phone’s* display. but i had my last phone for four years and just got a pre, so i’m guessing that by the time i replace the pre the whole game will have changed. again.
