Details from Morris Rosenthal of Foner Books. Excerpt: “Amazon has always leveraged Ingram’s huge stock and wholesaler pricing to enable Amazon to list over a million new titles without having to stock every last one, but that relation may not be as important as it once was.” As for Lightning Source, the Ingram subsidy already on Amazon’s dump list, Morris very much sees the Mobipocket factor at work.

Aren’t Lightning Source the main suppliers of ebooks for Fictionwise? I’d hate to see them go under, the vast majority of my ebooks were purchased from there.
I doubt LS will go under, they have other customers, but this is indeed a MAJOR loss of business. And, of course, by apparently focusing on an in-house format, Amazon is showing the dangers of as proprietary approch. Independents like Fictionwise have built much of their busines around Mobipocket. How much can they trust Amazon/Mobipocket in the future? – David
