Richard Bellaver, a Ball State University professor and former AT&T executive with a special interest in e-book usability for K-12 and above, has just responded to our questionnaire for candidates for the IDPF Board. An excerpt:
“Since usage and content necessary to improve learning are what I am looking for, I want access to all media and transferability among all devices. Again I don’t care about the type of device. General purpose (laptop or telephone) or specific reading device doesn’t matter as long as the media can get to it. Therefore I want standards that allow transferability and make it as easy as possible on creator, and distributor. I want linking and I want annotations and highlighting. My research shows the students want these features.”
The TeleBlog simultaneously e-mailed all the candidates and will welcome replies to the same questions from Jon Noring, DigitalPulp Publishing, Matt Shatz, Random House, and Eli Willner, Green Point Technology Services. Candidates should post to the comments area associated with the questions. Ideally they’ll also send along photos to use, suggested headlines, and recommend excerpts, for quotation in posts similar to this one. Here’s the e-mail address to use. It’s fine for noncandidates to post civil questions for candidates, or suggest issues to be covered.
IDPF’s election ends Tuesday at midnight.
