Hong Kong-developed display tech: Eventual challenge to E Ink and other major e-paper products?

Will a new Hong Kong-developed display technology compete successfully against E Ink and other e-paper products?
So far, thermochromatic displays from H.K. can only show logos. But Weijia Wen and other researchers at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology claim the displays should eventually be suitable for e-books and offer low power consumption.
