If you happen to live in any of the North American East Coast regions that are expected to be clobbered by Hurricane Sandy sometime later tonight, our thoughts are with you, and we hope you and your loved ones are duly prepared with all the necessary emergency supplies.
If you’re lucky enough to still have electricity, this would be an ideal time to plug in and power up all your electronic gadgets. Your cell phone should be at the very top of that list, of course, but you might be wise to power up your e-readers, tablets and laptops, too. That way, you’ll have at least a few hours of entertainment options at the ready, even if you do lose power.
And regardless of whether or not you’re currently in the path of the super storm, we hope you’ll consider downloading some of the free disaster preparedness and recovery e-books we’ve found online.
The Texas Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN), for instance, offers a good selection of free books that are all hosted on Smashwords. (Link) EDEN also has links to various other e-books, PDFs and mobile apps that all concern disaster information of some sort. (Link) To go directly to EDEN’s collection on Smashwords, click here.
Smith Family Enterprises offers a free Disaster Preparedness Kit (PDF).
If any of you can recommend similar free e-books, please let us know in the comments.
Update: Thanks to RELEVENT Magazine for tipping us off to CNN’s “very practical list of what to expect from Hurricane Sandy (worth reading for everyone).”
