Faced with lawsuit, Amazon will replace Kindles damaged by its covers

Some Kindles “cracked”—yes, were damaged—by Amazon-sold covers.
A lawsuit followed.
Now, already, we see the results. Amazon is replacing the damaged Kindles for free rather than charging $200, according to Engadget and others.
The lawsuit is still to go ahead.

I see that other Kindle cover manufacturers have started using the “Kindle Hinge”. Will they continue to use that mechanism or will the threat of lawsuits by a handful of knuckleheads cause them to quit using the hinge?
The Amazon Kindle covers are not defective – it’s a very small percentage of the Kindle community that are the problem.
