eReader Android version coming in ‘mid to late summer’: ePub capability to follow

An Android version of eReader will appear in “mid to late summer,” according to Scott Pendergrast at Fictionwise, the Barnes & Noble subsidiary that owns the format.
It won’t start out reading ePub, but Scott tells me such a capability will follow shortly.
As expected, the new eReader will be able to read not just ePub wrapped in Fictionwise’s DRM but also nonDRMed ePub.
He tells me, in addition, that a linux version of eReader is also on track and should appear in the near future.
Scott was about to begin a meeting and couldn’t talk long, but perhaps he can add more details in our comments section.

Scott, any timeline you’re willing to share on eReader for the Palm Pre? I got one on Saturday and love it, and would love to have eReader on it!
For the time being the third party palm emulator will allow you to muddle through, but we are already making plans for native support of pre. Our goal is “ereader everywhere”.
Let’s hope that ‘everywhere’ includes a few e-ink devices as well. The android version is a nice start though. Much appreciated!
I can’t wait for the Android version. I’ve been a loyal ereader user since my Handspring Visor Platinum.
I hope this (and the availability of Multiformat books as ePub) means that the iPhone OS version of eReader will soon also support reading ePub. It’d be nice to have everything in there instead of splitting my books between eReader and Stanza. (Yes, Stanza can read eReader format, but I dislike the chapter-chunking behavior and its inability to do top/bottom tap for page movement.)
Is this still happening?
I haven’t seen an eReader for the android and it’s almost summer 2010. Was he meaning Summer 2010? I already use Aldiko book reader but they don’t have newer content. I’d like to be able to spend my money at amazon or b-n to buy books I can carry on my phone but I keep hearing that it’s almost here. Is it really?

That was Scott Pendergrast from Fictionwise, talking about the Fictionwise/eReader reader software for eReader and Secure eReader formats. The Android version of that has been available for some time.
Barnes & Noble is a different story. They just released the iPad version of their reader software for EPUB and B&N EPUB formats.
