End in sight for eBookwise? For the first time since installing Windows 7 I tried converting a Munsey's downloaded book via eBookwise Librarian without success. I have had contact with eBookwise support (very slow) and no response from Librarian support after three emails over a period of three days. This pretty much cooks it for me. I'm inclined toward the purchase of a Nook (assuming there really is a Nook).

Great review! I have an eSlick but am looking for another ereader. When the eSlick's battery needs to be charged, I have to whip out a paperback, so I decided to purchase another ereader. The eSlick is priced at $269 and I can not afford to purchase another one. The eBookwise will fit my budget and I am reasonably techie savvy, so I am not unnerved by the complexities of the eBookwise.

Well, I'm only a year behind but............Great review! I have used an eBookwise for about three years and love it. I don't think it or the eBookwise site require any technical expertise at all, however.
The only other reading device I have used was the Gen 1 Cybook, which I sold on eBay a couple of years ago. Big mistake - I miss background colors.

I think the dictionary does come ready on your on-line bookshelf. I did not install it onto my device though because the documentation warned that it would take up a LOT of room. In the future though, when I don't have as much on my to-read list, I may check it out. I would love to see some options for that sort of thing in other languages, though. I don't have any need for an on-board English dictionary, but if such a thing were available in French, I would download that in a minute. Right now, when I do read in French, I carry a pocket Larousse e-gizmo. Having something right on board the reader would help a lot.

One feature that I'd like to mention - if you download the free(?) dictionary, you can quickly look up definitions of words by clicking on them, then hitting the "lookup" button.

I don't know if it ships with a dictionary installed or not, but even though I don't use it a lot, when I use it, it's fantastic.

Great post, Ficbot.

I've actually found the eBookWise usable in bright daylight--which is unusual for backlit devices.

One thing I'd like to see is a broader range of font sizes. Right now, the eBookWise supports two (large and small). I appreciate the Palm Reader's ability to pick a huge number. Those who requre truly large text will need to reformat their eBooks first because the 'large' option on the eBookWise may not be enough.
