E-books on new iPhones: App limit boosted from 148 to 176

The new iPhones “can now hold 176 apps on 11 side-by-side Home screens,” reports the New York Times—and that’s a nice little boost from the earlier 148.
What does this have to do with e-books? Plenty, given the fondness of some publishers for releasing them as apps.
Of course, I’d still like to see a way for us to fold app books into—gasp, all-purpose e-book reading software. That could reduce the app clutter and make room for more titles.

Actually, this is only half-correct anymore, David.
You can only see the first 176 apps—but any apps added to your phone beyond that magic number can still be accessed and launched through the new Spotlight search window.
Something that might be nice as both a means of extending and organizing the number of apps that can be displayed would be some kind of “sub-launcher”: tap on an “E-books Category” icon, and a new launcher opens up with just e-books (or some other app category you name).
I wonder if something like that could be hacked up by third-party coders?
